Before you begin an intensive outpatient program, it’s a good idea to prepare for the change in your daily schedule and routine. An IOP at Solution Based Treatment & Detox is an opportunity for clients to continue their recovery therapy on a part-time basis that gives them space to accommodate personal and professional obligations. SBT’s Southern California intensive outpatient program (IOP) is ready to help you or your loved one at any stage of the recovery journey.

Getting Ready for an IOP
Your day-to-day schedule will change while you participate in an IOP. It’s a good idea to speak with family members and friends to let them know that you will be taking extra time to focus on yourself and making sure you maintain a positive trajectory on your path toward lasting recovery.
It’s sensible to check an employee handbook to determine workplace accommodations and rules regarding absence for recovery and mental health services. Many workplaces have rules regarding these matters, and this may influence your decisions as well as the way you choose to speak to your employer about time spent in recovery.
In treatment, clients at SBT attend individual and group therapy sessions. Individual sessions are typically once a week. Group sessions are capped at ten people to create an intimate environment that is a safe space for sharing your thoughts and feelings with others who have been through their own challenging life circumstances.
What You Can Expect to Learn in an IOP
Recovery treatment programs are intended to help clients achieve personal growth. While certain aspects of treatment focus on healing the body from the trauma of addiction, such as education about nutrition, other areas of focus relate to mental health and ways to navigate sober life.
Learning to overcome the trauma that has resulted from a life of addiction is an integral part of the recovery process. Those who have struggled with addiction often have co-occurring mental health disorders and may require a dual diagnosis for issues including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Mood disorders
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Harm reduction strategies are an essential part of rehab. Life skills developed in a rehab focus on the importance of coping mechanisms and strategies to manage high-risk triggers in real-life situations. This is essential to avoid self-sabotage and safely navigate everyday life. The pitfalls that cause people to relapse are real, but they are also avoidable.
Creating a strong sober network can help you on your personal recovery journey. The professionals at Solution Based Treatment & Detox can help you find local groups, 12-step programs, anonymous groups like AA and NA, sober sponsors, and other resources that can help improve your personal safety net to avoid falling into old ways.
