Two of the main treatment styles for addiction include partial hospitalization programs (PHP) and intensive outpatient treatment. These addiction treatment programs differ from inpatient treatment because patients are allowed to live in their own home or a non-hospital setting during their treatment process. Partial hospitalization programs and intensive outpatient treatment have fewer requirements and alternative standards but are just as effective as inpatient addiction treatment.

The Basics of Partial Hospitalization Program

Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) are the highest-level outpatient program you can take part in for addiction treatment. At Solution Based Treatment our treatment team uses a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy, education, 12-step principles, medication management, and process group therapy.

Clients in this program are able to live in their own home nearby, but many choose to stay in the “homestyle” sober living centers that we have to offer. The benefit of staying in a sober living environment during partial hospitalization programs is having access to medical professionals and support staff at all times, which is especially important during the detox process and initial days.

Our partial hospitalization program typically takes place from 9am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday. This allows clients to adopt a routine schedule. In addition to addiction treatment, we also take our clients to experience sober outings and adventures throughout Southern California such as sporting events, beach trips, and hiking excursions.

Understanding Intensive Outpatient Treatment

Intensive outpatient treatment programs are ideal for individuals who have completed some sort of addiction treatment in the past and are risking relapse or have relapsed. It is a hands-on approach to addiction treatment that has been proven effective. More often than not, clients must participate in an inpatient detox before they can enter intensive outpatient treatment. This allows them to safely detox in a sustainable manner.

Intensive outpatient treatment is adaptable to the client’s life, including your personal, professional, and family life. Because you do not spend the majority of your time in treatment, you must have a strong drive to get sober and stay sober.

During intensive outpatient treatment, you are able to make the transition from inpatient addiction treatment to the real world. When compared to partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient treatment is less time consuming – but just as effective. In Solution Based Treatment’s intensive outpatient treatment, client’s are assigned an individual therapist, but also participate in therapy process groups that are small in size. Being located in Southern California, there are many opportunities for picking up new routines and hobbies during addiction treatment, and intensive outpatient treatment allows you to have the time to partake in other activities and adventures.
